Stereotyping

Stereotyping occurs when someone claims that members of another culture all share the same characteristics, which are often negative. It is a form of prejudice and it often creates misunderstandings and difficult realationships .

Do you think that stereotypes can contain an element of truth? How do you feel about stereotypes that concern your country? To what extent do you think they are justified and to what extent are they inaccurate?

Italian people: on the cell phones all the time…. speaking loudly!!

I get really annoyed when people speak too loud in public places. I think this is very common for Italian people and on those occasions I feel embarrassed and I don’t identify myself with this aspect of our culture. I feel it is rude and arrogant: why should everybody be compelled to hear what we’re saying? Why do people speak on their cell phones as if they were at home in a private room? Why do we shout all the time? I can’t stand people who don’t switch their cell phones off at the cinema or, even worse, during a work meeting: how embarrassing to hear the ring tone or the buzzing sound of your neighbour’s phone during a teachers’ assembly!!

Is that a stereotype? It is, in the sense that stereotypes don’t focus on individual differences, and it is of course true that not every Italian is loud and noisy, but a lot of people are!

A comon stereotype that people give to the portuguese: the portuguese womam are small, fat, dumb, and have a mustache! -.-'
People don't have the right to talk about the personalitty and phisic of someone without knowing them!
If the adults can't give us a good example about being polite with other cultures and avoiding racism, its up to us,the youngers, to start revolucioning the minds for a better relationship between Humans!
